Flight to Egypt

The Flight into Egypt

There in the midst of darkness
They made their journey,
The journey that was the first
For the one born but a short time ago

It was a cold, uncertain journey
With few possessions.
There would be no friend
To welcome them in Egypt.

The sky continuously dark;
No sign that dawn was coming,
Yet hope they had in the little one
Peaceful in the arms of Mary.

Here is the longed for promise,
Immanuel-God is with us.
Darkness may still prevail
But we know it is encompassed by light.

Merry Christmas!
